Designed in 1983 for the beginner. This kit will enable anyone who has never made paper to learn to form sheets of handmade paper with easy to follow instructions. Suggestions for techniques such as lamination are included in the instruction sheet. This kit will make a 5x7 sheet of paper for various uses such as stationery, drawing, painting, or creating larger collages. Creativity, curiosity, and any of our textboks will help you with your future needs. The mould and deckle can be used over and over.

Each Kit Contains: a 5"x7" mould, constructed from a 3/4' poplar moulding with a twill weave papermaking screen attatched with rust-proof staples. A deckle used to form the sheets. One sheet of cotton linter pulp (approx. 3.4 lbs.). 1oz sizing, synthetic chamy, instruction sheet.

Constructed from the same materials as in the papermaking kit. These moulds and deckles also have rustproof staples and polyester screen. We recommend using duct tare around the edges of the screen to prevent paper from sticking. Prices are based on "united inches". To determine the united inches, add 2 sides together. Example-11"x14"- 11+14= 25 united inches.

We have discovered Synthetic Chamy (spun rayon fabric) for use as felts. Our use of these cloths quite by accident revealed an extremely absorbent surface that excels any other type of felt used. It is sold as an all purpose cloth for wiping up spills, cleaning, etc. Absorbs twice it's weight in water. When used for papermaking, it was observed to form almost a vacuum between the screen and fabric to pull the paper off the screen. The chamy cloth is light weight and can be squeezed by hand for use time and time again. DO NOT PUT IN DRYER. WASH BEFORE USING.

Methyl Cellulose in sued as an adhesive for binding and strengthening when working with cast paper. Archival quality. Dissolves readily in cold water. Clear. Will not decopose or ferment.

Directions: According to manufacturer- "one pound will produce u pto seven gallons of high quality paste". This would be adequae as a sizing. However, for a heavy paste, one ounce per PINT of cold water is much stronger.... one ounce per QUART is moderately stronger.

A pre-cooked potato sizing in powder form. A favorite with our customers for years! Economical, convenient to use... produces stong fiber bonding, increases strength and improves sheet surface. Indefinite shelf life in powder form. No evidence of insect contamination ever reported.

Directions: One ounce of powder to one quart of hot water (agitated briskly) will progduce a mild internal sizing. One half cup of this solution would size one sheet of hydrated pulp. For a stiffer, stronger paper surface, test with 1/4 cup powder to 1 quart water.
